Bogle Architects was appointed, by CA Immo, to reposition the existing building with a new façade and activate the main atrium to provide new communal spaces to further benefit the building’s users.
The main intervention in the exterior will be the replacement of the failing stone cladding with a solution based on terracotta panels. The proposal seeks to give the building a fresh appearance while respecting the volumetric values and townscape conditions.
The new façade will be composed of vertically staggered terracotta panels of various sizes and finishes. This allows the facades to be treated as surfaces where the perforation of the windows on each floor is part of the general composition.
The naturally coloured panels will be formed by a mix of complementing hue variations.
To improve the health and well-being of the building users, external balconies are added to the north and east façade and positioned to allow each tenant to have their own private outdoor space. The balcony design takes its reference from the ripples in the flowing waters of the Vltava River, emerging from the main façade as organic shapes.
In the interior space the main element will be the new staircase – the ribbon – which will connect the ground floor to the second-floor garden via a series of platforms which host a variety of uses.
The ribbon is composed of a white GRG shell covering the steel structure supporting the floors and the stairs. A clear glazed balustrade follows the organic form and connects with the balustrade of the terrace space.
Two “floating” meeting rooms are also proposed as part of the atrium space and assigned to specific tenants. The aesthetic will follow the one proposed for the ribbon with a GRG underside topped by clear glazing which in this case is sloped to make the volume appear smaller and more organic.
The columns supporting the Ribbon and the meeting spaces will be clad with aluminium encasing and finished to resemble brushed chrome steel.
