Bogle Architects wins international competition to design new campus in Slovakia
Located in Vistuk to the North East of Bratislava, this new boarding school for LEAF Academy
will be located on a rural hilltop setting on what was historically farmland. The farm has since
been decommissioned to make way for the new school, which is designed to be sympathetic
to its rural surroundings.
Although entirely contemporary in feel, the design responds sensitively to the traditional farm
architecture of the surrounding area. The scheme will be developed in six distinct phases.
Phase 1 includes a group of residential buildings arranged in two clusters of four blocks -
dormitories for 400 pupils, as well as three teacher accommodation blocks. The design of
these blocks makes reference to the pitched roofs of farmstead buildings but presents a
more contemporary student accommodation aesthetic.
Matej Sapak, Principal of LEAF Academy, comments: "The mission of LEAF Academy is to
help young people from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds to realise their true
potential - not only in terms of academic excellence, but even more importantly in relation
to high ethical standards, authentic leadership and civic engagement. To meet this aspiration,we engaged Bogle Architects to help us think through how these new facilities might support the development of these values. It will be a challenging journey and we are excited to be working with a creative team that demonstrates such innovative thinking and acclaimed international experience."
Barbora Markechová, Director at Bogle Architects, states: "Designing a boarding school
with a great curriculum has been a real pleasure. The site offered all the possibilities for the
Campus to become a sensible addition to its agricultural setting. Our expertise in designing
education buildings around the world helped to create an inspiring and innovative learning
environment for the future leaders of our society. We look forward to developing this scheme
and being part of this exciting experience."
Closer to the centre of the site, the learning components of Phase 1 comprise two naturally
ventilated buildings, a dining hall, a sports building and the EL (Entrepreneurial Learning)
building, are all arranged around a new public square.
Passive design solutions have been deployed throughout the scheme, including passive solar
gain during the winter months. Many of the buildings are naturally ventilated and some are
designed to achieve a BREEAM 'Outstanding' certification.

Building Magazine selects Staromestska's early drawing as Sketch of the week
'When we where asked to look at the Staromestka project, we knew it would have to be a sensitive yet contemporary intervention in the historical structure of Bratislava. The townscape has a strong character which immediately suggested to me that we should design a curvilinear appearance to create a counterpoint within the rich city texture. The set-back floors offer great views back towards the castle while while respecting street lines heights'

Bogle Architects wins planning consent for new ‘smart working’ development at The Oxford Science Park
Planning has been granted for a new speculative office/laboratory development designed by Bogle Architects. Located within The Oxford Science Park, the building will deliver contemporary, flexible work space, promoting ‘smart working’ and employee wellbeing.
The building is conceived as two dramatic wings canted away from each other in plan, serviced by a single core facing an impressive triple-height atrium lobby with long views towards the park. Two satellite cores facing the atrium will service the fully open plan offices, maintaining layout flexibility.
Polona Pirnat, Project Associate of Bogle Architects, states:
’We are thrilled that the scheme has received planning consent. The building will, we believe, prove a worthy addition to The Oxford Science Park's existing building portfolio.’’
Piers Scrimshaw-Wright, Managing Director, The Oxford Science Park said:
"We are delighted that Oxford City Council has passed a resolution to approve its detailed planning application for a new state of the art office building. We plan to commence construction in early 2017 to provide high specification and energy efficient office and laboratory space capable of accommodating 500 people.”
The 7,100 sqm building will provide around 5,574 sqm of net floor area. The building’s massing and orientation responds thoughtfully to its immediate context. The top level of the building will be set back from the North, East and West to respect massing of its neighbours, creating a roof terrace for the tenants.
The design of the new building adheres to the guidelines and key indicators of BCO using a palette of high quality materials, responding to the client’s brief and reflecting the building’s high use values. Energy efficiency is paramount with a BREEAM rating of “Very Good” the design incorporates passive design measures as well as low and zero carbon technologies such as air source heat pumps. The main entrance to the building will be entered from the north, directly facing the landscaped drop-off and linking into the wider masterplan of the Science Park. Service, cyclist facilities and bin stores will be located to the southern side of the building facing the car park.
Ian Bogle, founder of Bogle Architects, adds:
“This project for The Oxford Science Park represents an important addition to the number of successful consents we have achieved in the UK this year, further evidence of our increasingly diverse portfolio both here and abroad.’’
Bogle Architects chosen for Pomezi residential development in Prague
Bogle Architects has been appointed by Real Estate Developer KKCG to design the Pomezi residential masterplan in Prague 5. The shortlist of practices participating in the design workshop included Schmidt Hammer Lassen and MVRDV.
This 16,500 sqm mixed tenure development will offer apartments, town houses and individual villas. The landscape strategy includes new green spaces, public footpaths, nature trails and an urban gym.
The natural beauty of the surrounding landscape inspired the proposed design concept of 'pavilions in the park'. The design exploits the challenging, undulating topography of the site, creating a scenic green setting. The scheme is carefully orientated to ensure all homes benefit from maximum daylight. The environmentally efficient structures will feature green roofs and energy saving systems.
Petr Pujman from KKCG says:
"KKCG recently organised a series of workshops with a group of distinguished architectural practices in order to identify a winning design for the Pomezi project. We are delighted to announce that Bogle Architects has been selected to deliver the scheme and we are very excited to be collaborating with such an innovative and creative team."
Viktorie Souckova, Managing Director, (Prague), Bogle Architects stated:
‘’The residential accomodation at Pomezi will be a fantastic addition to this unique part of Prague. We look forward to continuing our relationship with KKCG and developing our increasing portfolio within the Czech Republic and beyond ‘’

We received the Glass Canvas team in our London Studio where they showed us their work with VR technologies.
We received the Glass Canvas team in our London Studio where they showed us their work with VR technologies. We were impressed by the quality of the images and the ese of the navigation within the VR environment.
‘’I’ve known Andy for years, from our days together at Foster and Partners, and it’s no surprise that he’s at the leading edge of technology within the visualisation world. Glass Canvas gave an informal VR presentation to our London studio recently, outlining where the technology started, what is possible today and where the technology is leading towards in the future. We all had fun wearing the headsets and are now looking for real applications where we can engage our Clients in this, ever evolving media ‘space’. ‘’
