It’s fun: “Get to the café – quick!” The idea is to bring fun to the heart of the building into the atrium, unleash the inner child to think beyond the norms and explore the possibilities, we don't simply see, hear, interact or touch the sculpture... We shall do all that and travel through it! Making the mundane chore of "vertical circulation" into a fun, social spectacle.
It’s feasible: This project can be procured in two stages, a prototype which if successful can be adjusted to create an extended version. The prototype would connect between level 2 and ground, the pieces used are modular, and therefore can be reconfigured to fit the extended scheme. For extended version, we propose a pair of slides that twist in the atrium, linking level 5 to level 2, and the from level 2 to ground. A transfer deck at level 2 doubles as seating, viewing, library and cafe.
It’s beautiful: In the extended version, the slide would be illuminated with LED rings, sensors follows the user down to create a lighting spectacle of people moving in the slides. The beginning and end of slides are illuminated with red and green traffic lights. The GRP slides are made from clear gel coats, and glass strand reinforcements are colourful, allowing light to pass through and bring animation to the otherwise still atrium.
It’s clever: Parametrically designed using one type of component, created using GRP, precisely joined together on site.
It’s light: Suspended on cables – the advantage of the slide, as opposed to stairs, is the dead loads are much lower. The slides leave and enter the floors above the handrails, so no need to dismantle existing handrails and balustrades !
